About
“I am an artist, who works solely on location. I work primarily around the Midlands, simply as that is where I live. Watercolour, pen and pastel are my favoured mediums to work in. Working on location has become an essential aspect of my work. I believe whilst most of the time it can be seen as a labour to get out plein air, with all the associated issues which arise but that is why I think it is incredibly important. You only improve when you are out of your comfort zone.
Having received no art training, my love and passion for painting outdoors simply grew from going out and doing it. I joined the Urban Sketching movement around a decade ago and whilst taking a step back from an organising standpoint, I still love to be involved. Most of the equipment I use has been adapted for my own preferences, as “off the shelf” rarely gives me what I need.

The reason for starting the business was simply that friends and people that I communicate with, often whilst out painting kept suggesting that I should sell them. I always felt that as I rarely paint what is considered “beautiful” in the traditional sense, my audience would be limited. My work is very based in industrial subjects. I do venture into the countryside to paint on occasions, and enjoy it very much, but I was born in the city, and live in the city, so I feel that I identify more with cityscapes.

My other interests include cooking, reading, playing chess/backgammon/go and some fitness. Cycling is simply a cheap and easy way to get to work and around.
