About….

I am a plein-air artist, based in the West Midlands.

Completely self-taught I go out and about primarily in Birmingham City Centre and paint life around me.

A large part of my work (my ethos if you wish) is seeking beauty in what is traditionally considered ugly, unsightly or downright grotesque.

These days I tend to work alone, but I do enjoy company of fellow artists, when the opportunity arises.

Whilst out in the “wild” I have numerous encounters with the public.  Mainly pleasant, some hostile but that is all part of the process.  Strangely it has become something I enjoy, either one.  It has certainly resulted in me becoming quite stoical.  It has been the best way to learn.

Whist I do work in the countryside, and more idyllic locations, I am more at home in the urban landscape.  I was born in the city, and the city is where I live.

Recently moving to Moseley has opened a new area to do work, that previously I had only touched upon.

Every weekend I go out into the city of Birmingham and paint.  It keeps things on an even keel for me and has become an essential aspect of my life.

I do work indoors as well, just for myself, and probably because I don’t own a television.  I also enjoy running, cycling, physical training, reading and music.  I rarely draw or paint these days without having music playing.
